Insightful music from Mali

Category: MusicDunikowski @ 18:57

Some of you probably know this song, but for those who don’t – here it is. It’s… It’s really good.

The song’s name is “La Fête au Village” and it is a part of album (produced by Manu Chao) – “Dimanche A Bamako” (2005).

Amadou and MariamAuthors are very interesting ones. Amadou and Mariam are a musical duo from Mali. They are both blind and they are married.

The duo produces music that mixes traditional Mali sound with rock guitars, Syrian violins, Cuban trumpets, Egyptian ney, Colombian trombones, Indian tablas and Dogon percussion. All these elements put together have been referred to as “Afro-blues” (copied from Wikipedia).

Let me know what you think about it.

Do you know Pandora.com? It WAS really cool. Was, cause due to U.S. law they cannot let people from abroad USA listen to their music. That is a shame.

Fortunately while searching for some music widgets for this blog I have found Last.fm . It is much like Pandora.com but it is better. For those, who don’t know the topic – both radio stations lets you listen to the chosen genre of music online or music which is similar to chosen artist. For example radio widget on this blog plays music similar to ‘Massive Attack’, but I could also configure it to play classic music all the time. This way you don’t just listen to your old tracks over and over again but you get sth new all the time from the kind you like. You can save your favorite tracks and then dig the topic deeper. At some point you will find yourself listening to dozens of cool new genres of music.

That part was exactly like Pandora.com did. Now the better part is that you can listen to Last.fm from anywhere (You could listen to Pandora.com only on their website), like your desktop, your own website and so on. Then, another important part is that you can share your music tastes, favorites and so on with your friends.

That’s it. Now try it.

And remember to invite me :DDo you know Pandora.com? It WAS really cool. Was, cause due to U.S. law they cannot let people from abroad USA listen to their music. That is a shame.
